Northwell Health, the largest healthcare provider in New York, just made a significant expansion.
On Wednesday, the company announced it completed its merger with NuVance Health, a Connecticut-based healthcare provider. According to Northwell, it is now the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in the entire Northeast, with a combined operating budget of $22.6 billion.
Northwell is the largest employer on Long Island, and after the merger, it now has over 104,000 employees across New York and Connecticut.
Its sprawling network now includes 22,000 nurses, 13,500 providers, and 28 hospitals. It also operates 1,050 ambulatory care centers and 73 urgent care locations throughout the Northeast.
Michael Dowling, president and CEO of Northwell Health, said, “Today marks a commitment to the future of health care in the region. This partnership opens a new and exciting chapter for Northwell Health and Nuvance Health to take patient care and services to an even higher level.”
