Total crimes in Nassau County surged by 20% in 2022, compared to the previous year. Major crimes rose by an even faster rate of over 38%.
Violent crimes like murder, rape, and other criminal sexual acts — generally uncommon in the county — saw declines.
But Nassau County is witnessing a rapid rise in robberies, especially of automobiles. Auto thefts rose by a whopping 87% in Nassau County in 2022. Nearly 800 vehicles were stolen last year, compared to just above 400 in 2021. Home burglaries were also up by double digits, growing by 39% in 2022.
