Port Washington Union Free School District Superintendent Dr. Michael J. Hynes announced his resignation this weekend. The sudden move comes into effect next month, weeks before the December recess.
Moving to the Private Sector
Hynes attributes his departure to “a rare opportunity to work in the private education sector,” which, he says will give him the ability to “focus on spending quality time” with his family. The resignation marks the end of his career in public education.
In his letter of resignation, Hynes thanked the district administration and community for their support and listed a number of achievements over his tenure, including the “highest graduation rate ever” in the school district’s history.
Hynes previously served as superintendent at the Patchogue-Medform Union Free School District for five years.
