Three of the ten hottest housing markets in the United States right now are in New York, according to a new report by Redfin.
The real estate firm’s 2025 analysis looked at spikes in homebuyer interest and competitiveness, revealing that New York neighborhoods continue to draw strong demand — with one area of Brooklyn unsurprisingly in the lead.
Prospect Heights and Clinton Hill, Brooklyn
The 11238 ZIP code, which encompasses parts of Clinton Hill and Prospect Heights, is the hottest in the country. With a median sale price of $1,397,000, the area has seen a 105% increase home sales over the past year and a 136% increase in views per listing over the same period.
Foreign buyers, many of whom are paying in cash, are helping drive the surge. Redfin agent Ian Rubinstein says, “Whenever I have a listing in Prospect Heights or Clinton Hill, I expect at least one call from a serious buyer overseas.”
The cash purchases make demand in this area more immune to mortgage rate pressures. “Given the prices, and the wealth required to buy into these neighborhoods, clients are less concerned about high mortgage rates,” said Rubinstein.
Great Kills, Staten Island
Great Kills (ZIP code: 10308), located on the south shore of Staten Island, comes in sixth on Redfin’s 2025 list — just two slots after Fairport, a suburb of Rochester.
With a median sale price of $700,000, the area attracts many priced out of Brooklyn. But 35% of homes sold for above list price.
“Buyers need to come in hot,” said Redfin partner agent Lauren Levert. Many homes are going above asking, and competition is increasingly intense —especially for move-in ready properties.
Long Island’s Rising Demand: Baldwin, Great Neck, and Hempstead
Three Long Island areas also rank among the hottest zip codes: Baldwin (11510), Great Neck (11021), and Hempstead (11550).
All three areas are seeing roughly a doubling in increase of median views per listing. Both Baldwin and Hempstead are seeing more than half of their sales above list price.
Great Neck boats some of the country’s best schools. And while the area is one of the priciest in the region, the Great Neck Plaza area also has many affordable condominums and co-ops that attract seniors and young families. It’s an extremely walkable area with a quick 30-minute ride to Penn Station on the LIRR.
