The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) is adding service to the Oyster Bay branch — one of its least frequent lines.
Two new trains will be introduced to its weekday service starting Monday, March 17: one eastbound and one westbound from Penn Station.
According to the LIRR, the additional weekday service will provide greater convenience for riders returning home from Broadway shows, dinners in Manhattan, and other entertainment or sporting events.
The expanded schedule also benefits new riders taking public transportation after the start of congestion pricing earlier this year. The added Penn Station-bound service also increase train options for reverse commuters.
The expansion follows the LIRR’s doubling of its direct morning train service to Penn Station from Oyster Bay for the first time ever.
“The best way to create an amazing customer experience is to provide reliable, convenient, and frequent service to our customers,” said Long Island Rail Road President Rob Free.
